Northern Virginia Magazine Design Intern

Northern Virginia magazine, a regional lifestyle glossy, is looking to add a tech-savvy, highly committed college intern to our art department for the fall semester (mid-August through mid-December). We are in search of a detail-oriented design student who is eager for hands-on experience in publication design. The right candidate will be capable of working on a variety of projects—often simultaneously — from concept to completion. This role is ideal for upcoming college juniors or seniors, or recent grads.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Update department pages
Update, collaborate on and design marketing materials
Schedule photo shoots
Assist in ad production & editorial proof cycle
Research stock photo & communicate with vendors for photo submissions
6. Maintain/design collateral/media kit as needed


QUALIFICATIONS:
* Must be able to receive school credit
* Strong sense of responsibility and reliability a must-no exceptions.
* Desired time commitment of approx. 20 hours per week. (hours can be adjusted to fit school schedule: 10 hr/wk minimum)
* 2-3 completed design courses, editorial design class desired.
* Strong grasp of Adobe InDesign (if you do not have InDesign experience creating layouts, please do not respond). Intermediate knowledge of Photoshop and Illustrator.
* Keen eye for typography and use of the grid system.
* Awareness and strong interest in other regional magazines desired.
