Internship with NGS books design team

The National Geographic Books Department is seeking a full or part-time intern for fall 2010. During the internship the student will have the opportunity to learn from the NGS Books Design team as well as other teams throughout the division. This involvement will ensure that he/she will get a full, well-rounded vision of book publishing, from the start of the project to the finish. This non-paid (for credit) internship is a fantastic opportunity to gain insight and actively participate in the world of book publishing. During the student's internship, he/she will:
Learn how to flow and style text and make text changes for various titles.
Observe and assist the design team with printed book dummies, place FPO (for placement only) imagery.
Attend weekly production/design meetings and occasional dummy shows.
Observe and assist design team in making clean silhouettes with clipping paths in Photoshop; and perform other miscellaneous tasks as needed.
Students interested should be actively pursuing a field related to journalism, communications, graphic design, or photography and should have a robust knowledge and proficiency in the Adobe suite (InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator).

If interested, please email your cover letter, resume, and portfolio sample (either in web or PDF format) with subject line "NGB Fall 2010 Internship" no later than Wednesday, August 18th to:
